NEW BEDFORD – With temperatures slowly creeping toward 50 degrees, it hardly felt like a beach day when Chris joined the mad dash into the frigid surf at East Beach on a late March Saturday morning.
Chris, who lives in Community Strategies’ Bellingham group home, didn’t hesitate before taking a quick dip in the icy water, flanked by the costumed, shivering crowd at the annual Polar Plunge fundraiser for the Special Olympics.
It was Chris’ second time doing a polar plunge fundraiser. He said he the cold doesn’t bother him and he likes raising money for the Special Olympics. With some help from staff to collect pledges, he raised more than $200 this year.
Chris is already looking forward to next year’s plunge.
